Definition
What this term means
A measure of how accurately, consistently, and favourably AI systems describe, cite, and recommend a brand when responding to user queries. AI visibility encompasses presence (whether you appear at all), accuracy (whether the information is correct), sentiment (whether the tone is positive), and prominence (whether you are recommended ahead of competitors).
Why it matters
The business impact
AI visibility is becoming as critical as search engine visibility. When a potential customer asks an AI assistant for a recommendation in your category, the AI's response is often the only thing they see before making a decision. Low AI visibility means your brand is either absent from these conversations or, worse, being described inaccurately, allowing competitors to capture demand you should own.
Used in context
How you might use this term
“An e-commerce brand discovered through an AI visibility audit that ChatGPT was recommending three competitors but never mentioning them. After targeted optimisation of entity signals and authority content, they achieved first-position recommendations within two months.”
